ARC – VIA’s all-electric vehicles
A current of excitement is coursing through VIA! And we’re ready to take that exhilaration
to the streets of San Antonio!
VIA is proud to introduce the latest addition to its fleet: Three electric buses.
These buses are a first for VIA and for the Alamo City. Featuring the latest in
clean power technologies, these 35-foot transit vehicles run on electricity provided
by on-board batteries. The electricity they are charged with is generated either
by solar panels installed as part of the project or by CPS Energy’s Windtricity
program, resulting in a public transportation option for locals and visitors alike
that is sustainable and completely emissions-free.
VIA contracted with Proterra to build three EcoRide vehicles. All of these electric
buses have been delivered and are being prepared for service in San Antonio’s central
business district. The buses will circulate through downtown, and they will be recharged
at VIA’s Robert Thompson Transit Station at the Alamodome. This station can recharge
a bus in ten minutes, so they can be back on the road in no time at all.
Ride one soon! And rest easy knowing that you did your part to make our local air
a little cleaner.
