VIA Metropolitan Transit began providing public transportation service in the San Antonio area in March 1978. We are funded by a one-half cent sales tax levied in San Antonio and seven other incorporated municipalities. In addition, VIA receives one-eighth cent sales tax levied in San Antonio by the Advanced Transportation District.

VIA provides the following services in our community:

  • Bus service including downtown streetcar service
  • Paratransit service for riders with disabilities
  • Vanpool service for commuters
  • Starlight service between 1a.m. and 4a.m.
  • Special event park & ride service

VIA is governed by a Board of Trustees with eleven appointees. In addition, the VIA Citizens Advisory Council(CAC) provides an information exchange forum for VIA to work with community representatives on transit related issues.
