Congressman Charles Gonzalez stopped by VIA Metropolitan Transit to see firsthand how the agency is using federal stimulus dollars to improve public transportation in San Antonio.
Congressman Gonzalez, who represents the 20th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, took a tour of VIA's new hybrid and compressed natural gas buses. These new vehicles were purchased using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and they are helping VIA to reduce air pollution and promote sustainability.
The hybrid buses are in service along VIA's express routes, and the compressed natural gas vehicles are serving the Yellow Streetcar route in the downtown area. Later in the fall, VIA will purchase three new all-electric buses that run on batteries. These vehicles will also go into service in the downtown area.
